Elizabeth Siddal: Her Story

Jan Marsh

Friday 08 December 2023, 12:30 at Millennium Gallery

£8/£7

Elizabeth Siddal was a Pre-Raphaelite supermodel, muse and wife of Dante Gabriel Rossetti – cast as a tragic heroine like the Ophelia she modelled for Millais.  This radical new account overturns the myths, presenting her as an aspirational, independent woman with extraordinary stories including the exhumation of her grave for Rossetti’s poems and new information including her attendance at art school in Sheffield. An illustrated talk.

Jan Marsh is a biographer, curator and pioneer of the feminist understanding of women in the artistic circle around the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.
