Anna Caig’s historical debut novel, The Wise Witch of Orkney, is set in 1593 as King James VI launches a bloody hunt to rid the country of witches. But, they are already within his court. Amanda Mason’s third novel, The Dark, is set in the 1970s when Rosie moves to a remote seaside village, readying to welcome her first child. Before long, she notices strange noises and unexplained shadows in the corners of the cottage…

Anna Caig is an alumna of The University of Sheffield and lives in the ‘howling wilderness’ of the Peak District. The Wise Witch of Orkney, was inspired by her love of the northern isles of Scotland, folklore, and the hidden voices of women. 

Amanda Mason was born and brought up in Whitby, North Yorkshire. Her novels are The Wayward Girls and The Hiding Place. Her short story, Three Times, Lefthandwise, was shortlisted for the V.S. Pritchett Short Story Prize in 2021.
