Ink dries on another festival!
As the ink dries on another wonderful festival, we want to say a huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone who made Off the Shelf 2026 so special!
What a fantastic journey it has been. From inspiring author talks and thought-provoking panels to captivating poetry readings, this year’s festival brought so many unforgettable moments to life.
To all of our brilliant authors, speakers and booksellers: thank you for bringing your stories, wisdom, and warmth to our stages. And most importantly to our incredible audiences: thank you for your energy, curiosity, and support at every single event. We loved every minute with you, and we hope you had a fantastic time!
This year’s festival was also particularly poignant for us as our Festival Director, Professor Vanessa Toulmin, stepped down after years of tireless dedication, vision, and leadership. Off the Shelf wouldn’t be what it is today without her incredible work, and we are deeply grateful for everything she has contributed to the festival and our community over the years.
Adding to the excitement, while the festival was in full swing, we learned the incredible news that Sheffield has been shortlisted for the City of Culture bid! As a University of Sheffield delivered festival, we are immensely proud to play a key role in shaping and contributing to Sheffield’s rich, vibrant cultural landscape.
Thank you for celebrating the power of words with us this year. See you all next year – and keep reading!
